The course was designed by a labour lawyer and does not go into the medical or scientific aspects of HIV and Aids. Its objective is to provide sufficient understanding of the virus and syndrome so as to empower employers to make informed workplace decisions.

About the Author
The course has been designed by Butterworths Labour Relations Design Team in association with Professor Alan Rycroft (BA LLB LLM). Professor Rycroft has done extensive research into HIV/Aids and its impact on labour relations. He is currently Dean of Law at Natal University and is a member of the mediation, arbitration and training panels of the Independent Mediation Service of South Africa (IMSSA) and is a part-time Senior Commissioner with the CCMA.
